The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus
Dec 2008
G12 James Arnott Theatre
Directed by Katherine Nesbitt
“My senses are deceived”. So says Dr. John Faustus to Mephistopheles when he enters into a contract with Lucifer to exchange 24 years of necromantic power in return for his eternal soul. As Faustus begins his journey across the globe, encountering a host of often surreal and remarkable characters along the way, questions are thrown up about complicity, the seductive nature of power, the possibility of salvation and the danger of personal pride. A visually engaging exploration of this vital and intriguing human story, which in the end is all it really is – a story about the great things it is possible for man to produce, and the limitations inherent in humanity.
