The Poetry Club
Someone in a room thought we should all get to know each other better as performance-based societies in Glasgow and thus, Kinfest was born!
We are holding the big ol' night of talent, Kinfest, showcasing on 9th November at the Poetry Club! This night is a chance to mingle with some of the other performance-based societies as well as show off some of what we all do while we're at it.
Everyone from the likes of GLASS to Aloud are coming to showcase their best and brightest so get your glad-rags on, come down, and have a highly entertaining Wednesday night!
GLASS
GLASS is Glasgow Uni's only society devoted to all things comedy. Performing and writing original sketches that drift between surrealist, witty, and just plain stupid humour. It’s a great opportunity to make people laugh and more fun than crying in the shower
Mutually Assured Destruction
A new short play by STAG's Chris Duffy!
The near future; a new cold war splits the planet in two. But a new Russian military coup wants to turn the cold war into a furnace. They succeed. Now two US soldiers receive orders to activate their nuclear deterrent – we don’t trust computers with a job like this. But people have free will, how will they react to orders which could destroy the world as we know it?
Aloud
Aloud is a student run literary event with a focus on performance poetry and encouraging new voices to the stage. With content ranging from sentimental love poetry to the view from the void, drug addled ramblings to three am memories, Aloud prides itself on being a welcoming and positive environment for both established poets and newcomers alike
Morgan Noll
Morgan Noll is a Canadian transplant slam poet hailing from Vancouver, BC. Using spoken word as a medium for comedic pieces, Morgan slams on topics such as existential dread and embarrassing encounters. At Kinfest Morgan will be preforming a piece on her colourful and awkward experiences in high school dating
GUSS
The Shakespeare Society is a relatively new society at Glasgow University. They are an open and friendly society interested in appreciating and performing the works of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries. They have pub quizzes, readings, scratch nights, bar crawls and film screenings. They've already put on their first play for the year, the horror comedy: 'Much Ado About Murder'. If you are interested in performing, directing, producing or just appreciating Shakespeare please get in touch!
Rob Turner
Rob Turner is a musician from Southeast England whose musical style is heavily influenced by early blues and gospel. Having busked and played gigs across the south east, he is now exploring Glasgow's music scene
Improv Teatime
Improv Teatime is Glasgow Uni's improvised theatre society. They practise the art of thinking on your feet so everything they do is completely made up, usually inspired by audience suggestions. To hone their skills they hold weekly workshops on short-form, long-form, and musical improv as well as performing as much as possible throughout the year!
Ashley Thompson
Ashley's used bits of other poets' work and her own to create a poem that tackles the idea of love meeting obsession. It's short but impactful and will (hopefully!) leave people wondering about what love and obsession actually are. As actors she feels we have to embrace the written word and that's what she's tried to do here!
Wilde on Speed
Wilde On Speed is a 10 minute version of the first act of STAG's mainstage Wilde In Space: The Importance Of Being Earnest. Watch 9 actors do their darnedest to squish everything in this complicated comedy in to a little time as possible -lots of laughs to be had!
