SOCIAL
STaG is a student society and in addition to our success in producing brilliant theatre, we offer a platform for our members to meet, socialise and have fun together in the form of social events. Naturally, the likes of Improv Teatime, our various workshops and involvement in STaG productions themselves all offer great opportunities to socialise, and based on your particular area of interest, you can find out more about these under the Get Involved section of the website. However, if you just want to meet people who share your interest in theatre in an informal setting, why not attend one of our scheduled social events…
SOCIALS:
STaG hold a general monthly social to which anyone interested in the society is welcome, as well as all of its long-standing members. These offer the perfect opportunity to meet some members of the society in the STaG Room (our official headquarters on campus) or a local pub. You can ask current members your questions about STaG, meet some board members, or simply relax and have a drink amongst old friends and new faces alike.
FUNDRAISERS:
A brilliant way to get a feel for the society, support a production and meet new people is at a STaG fundraiser. These are held in The STaG Room during the run-up to a production and are open to absolutely everyone. Members can bring their family and friends, and there is usually a great selection of drinks and nibbles on offer, as well as some short performances from various talented members of the society. In the past, entertainment has included live music and monologues, stand-up comedy, games, quizzes, film-screenings and more. Charged with the buzz of an up-and-coming production, a STaG fundraiser is always a great night out.
THE ANNUAL STaG BALL:
STaG also celebrates the success of each year with the annual STaG Ball. The STaG membership always turn out in their best for this very special event complete with ceilidh band and a new theme each year.
PLAY READING GROUP:
Once a fortnight, we host a play-reading club for those avid readers out there in the STaG Room at 5:30pm on Tuesdays. The group is an informal and friendly atmosphere where members can sit in, listen and contribute as much or as little as they like about a given text. At each session a play will be collectively picked by the group to read for next time. No course-texts, nothing formal just a good chin wag about our favourite plays with some tea and biscuits. If you would like to join the reading club then keep an eye on the mailing list for the next session dates.
THEATRE TRIPS:
STaG hold regular theatre trips to see professional theatre around Glasgow and sometimes further afield. These trips offer members the opportunity to go to the theatre as a group with like-minded people with a keen interest in theatre, as well as give all members an opportunity to keep up-to-date and in-touch with current trends in the theatre industry. Vintage 1940s fancy dress, with your chance to star in your own professional wartime photo shoot in STaG’s dress-up corner, plus authentic personal dance cards for all guests so you can book a special moment with your sweetheart. You’re sure to have a jolly time with our live ceilidh band and guest DJ set, with access to the private bar, and free food available all evening. The STaG Ball is the only place where you can hear the announcement of the winners of the prestigious annual STaG awards and all guests are welcome to carry on their celebrations of a great year for STaG at the late night after party.
