ACT

Whether you have years of experience on the stage, or have never performed before, STaG provides a multitude of opportunities for actors to pursue their interest in performance. There are a number of performances for which you can audition throughout the year, and we always welcome both new people and established STaG members alike.

AUDITIONS:

Although the audition process itself may differ slightly from one production to another, panels are always friendly and there is no need to be intimidated if you have never been to an audition before.
Generally you will be asked to fill out a small form with your details, and perhaps take part in some games or warm-up exercises. Actors then may be asked to read an extract from the script and/or take part in an improvisation. In the unlikely event that a director has chosen to have auditionees prepare something for the audition, this will always be made clear well in advance.

STaG auditions are generally informal, however they inevitably function as a process of selection and so, sadly, not everyone can always be guaranteed a part. However, STaG’s annual New Talent Nights make the unique offer of guaranteed roles for all actors who audition – making them a great opportunity for anyone keen to tread the boards at the beginning of the academic year.
If you would like to hear when we are auditioning throughout the year, simply join the mailing list (at the top right-hand corner of the page) and you will find news of any upcoming shows and their audition times and dates in our weekly newsletter. If you still have questions about auditions, you may find the answers you are looking for in the FAQ section of the website.

IMPROV TEATIME:

There are different kinds of performer, and fulfilling the needs of those who prefer to throw away the script and ride the adrenaline-fuelled wave of making-it-up-as-you-go-along, STaG has Improv Teatime. Once upon a time, it wouldn’t have been completely unreasonable to think that this event brought with it the guarantee of a cup of tea. Sadly, the presence of any tea whatsoever at Improv Teatime is now so rare as to almost become myth. What you can be certain of enjoying, however, is a fortnightly opportunity to test your improvisation skills and meet some friendly fellow STaG members and improvisation enthusiasts by joining in various games and improv activities.
News of each fortnight’s Improv Teatime is published in the STaG newsletter, which you can sign up to at the top right-hand side of the page.

WORKSHOPS:

STaG is constantly evolving and trying to respond to the changing interests of its ever-growing membership. An increase in workshops throughout the year is one thing we are aiming to offer our membership in the near future, including some specifically performance-based events.
For news of upcoming workshops, keep an eye on the weekly newsletter which you can sign up to by using the box at the top of the page.
